3 Behavior Management Systems Every Teacher Needs

by

When I started my teaching journey, I believed I needed an elaborate behavior management system. You know, the classroom management plan with all the bells and whistles – classroom economies, fancy class stores, and super complicated systems.

But here’s the deal. There were two issues that didn’t sit right with me.

  1. I didn’t want to drain my hard-earned cash on this stuff.
  2. I’m all about maintaining that precious work-life balance, and those behavior management systems seemed like a ton of work to set up and maintain.

So, here’s what I’ve learned – you can run a super smooth classroom with simple behavior management systems. Simple and effective – that’s my motto!

The key is you gotta have all three behavior management systems in place: Individual, Small Group, and Whole Group. Leaving any of them out is like missing a puzzle piece in your favorite game.

Individual Behavior Management System

An individual student, this is a picture to go along with the individual behavior management system explanation.

An individual behavior management system is the foundation of your classroom success. It’s all about forming personal connections, celebrating students’ standout moments, and delivering individual recognition when they set the bar as role models. And guess what? It’s your secret for giving every student that superstar treatment. Sometimes something as simple as a little sticker in a sticker book can go a long way!

Small Group Behavior Management System

A small group behavior management system is the cornerstone of teamwork and unity in your classroom. It’s a way to foster collaboration and peer support. At those table groups, students bond, cheer for their group wins, and get extra kudos for setting a good example.

Whole Group Behavior Management System

A whole group of students, this is a picture to go along with the whole group behavior management system explanation.

A whole group behavior management system is the key to teamwork in your classroom. This system gets the whole class on the same page, working together as a team with a shared mission. A whole group behavior management system ensures that every single student is accountable for their actions and it rewards positive behavior as a class. It fosters unity and shared responsibility for everyone’s success. Here are 21 Free Classroom Incentives that Students Actually Like!
